Friend verses friend, ultrarunner against ultrarunner. 5k verses 100k. This is the race for everyone — the first of its kind. 136 nations, 34 tracks, 32 countries on six continents – the Wings for Life World Run. Starting from sunrise to sunset, in spring and autumn, through the night and through the searing heat of the day, joggers, celebrities, marathon runners, triathletes and ultra-marathon runners will pass through 13 time zones, running for those who can’t.
Raising funds and awareness for spinal cord injury, “It’s a race to help other people – and no one should miss it,” said Giorgio Calcaterra, Italy’s three-time world champion ultra-marathon runner, who is tipped for the crown.“Taking part in a race like this is amazing.” But while he is racing in Verona, Italy, he’ll be competing against 100km world-record holder (6:13.33) Takahiro Sunada, a Japanese ultra-marathoner, in Austria.
